My daughter has ate cereal before going to bed for about a month now and for some reason after I feed her her cereal and put her to bed she wakes up a hour later and cryes bloody murder it started like 5 days ago I though it was that she was constipated but shes not. I did change her cereal but I changed it back 2 days ago and I did start using tap water but I changed that today... What can it be? should I call a doctor?

A 3 month old shouldn't be getting cereal for one thing. The digestive tract is not developed to digest it. She is probally full of gas and not able to expel it at this time.

Infants should be on formula NOT food! Add cereal at about 5 or 6 months. A full liquid diet will allow her to develop the ability to digest a thicker fluid.

Put her back on formula ONLY, burp her after every 2 ounces, let her drink whatever she can. Changes like these can complicate an infants bowel tract.

Just try it is all I will say. You should see a change for the better over night!

Just posted my answer.......and read a few answers....Thumbs up to "RENATE" the only one on here making and sense!

I read your additional notes: You seem more defensive than receptive. I am certain this is painful for YOU as well and you are trying to heed the Doctor's advice? Try reading the answers you have gotten? Most "parents" answer from experience and we all say that FOOD/CEREAL isn't what you should be doing.

Trust your instincts, ask your MOM and listen with an open mind to other Moms that have been through this painful ordeal with their babies.

My daughter does this sometimes too. I think it has to do with the inconsistency of the consistency of the cereal, sometimes its too thin and other times too thick. It could also be that your daughter has developed an intolerence to the cereal because you fed her very young, infants should not be on any solids until 4 months. Regardless I am not here to judge and if you think it is what is best. Be sure that her burp her well with the cereal just as you would nursing/formula. Oh quick thought maybe she is going through a growth spurt and may need more food or a 2nd feeding during the day to help balance her out. My daughter seems to be doing great now, I feed her once at noon, and once at 6 and she sleeps through the night and takes a healthy nap in the afternoon as well, I also mixed some fruit in with her cereal and she seems to be happier longer. I hope this helped. Take care.

I have a 5 month old and a 2.5 year old and I am in the same boat. Plus my 5 month old has acid reflux and cries nonstop some days. I do have to say that it gets better the older the baby gets. What about your mom or any other relative? You need to find some time to yourself for the safety of your children. Do you have a young teen in your neighborhood that can watch your children while you do things around the house or take a walk (usually cheaper or just want some experience). Also talk to your fiancee about how you are feeling. I have found that the way I approach my husbands makes a difference in how helpful he will be. If I come to him angry he is more likely to be defensive. Also find a mommy and me group, it is great for support and friendships. You could also check your local gyms to see if they offer free childcare with your membership. That way you could get all your stress out and have an hour to yourself. If you you are really feeling stressed your children maybe sensing and reacting to it by crying. The saying,"When mommy is happy then everyone is happy" is so true.

Maybe if you give her the cereal earlier in the day instead of before she sleeps. Babies go through growth spurts, so maybe last month she wanted more food, so the cereal was good for her, but now her appetite might of slowed down and it can be to much for her. Having a belly to full can be uncomfortable to sleep. Maybe it is just best to not give her any food before she goes to bed and if she is hungry, just give her a bottle of milk instead. In addition, you should call the pediatrician just to make sure she is not having other serious issues. I don't think she is sick (because she is eating), just to full.

Why have you started feeding your child solids, was this under medical advice. Babies shouldnt start solids untill 4 months (6 months if breast feeding) as there digestive system isnt fully developed to cope with solid foods. Who knows why she is crying maybe pain, uncomfortable. Also tap water will need to be boiled, even for cereal (if your not already). It wouldnt hurt to seak to a doctor or health nurse/clinic sister (what ever you call them where you live)

Chances are it is the gases that are being released during the digestion process. Try to only give cereal in the morning when she is going to be awake for longer. She may also have acid reflux and her laying down that soon after eating may be causing it to flare up. Try giving the cereal when you know she is going to be awake and upright for atleast two hours after the meal and if there is not improvement call the pediatrician.

You are not supposed to give babies food until they get to be about 6 months old. Please stop giving her the food. She is getting terrible stomach aches and she cannot digest the stuff. Cereal has no nutrition and she needs breast milk or formula now not food.

Yes, call the doctor. He will tell you not to feed the baby and please do not give a child that small unsterilized water.

she is probably trying to get use to the set up, i think you might want to run it by the doc jsut call them and talk to the nurse on hand. She will know more and you never know what kind of people you get on here so i would do that for sure, people can give good advice but when it comes to your baby i would go with the professional advice. good luck!

it could be an upset stomach, maybe it would be a good idea to ask a doctor, and hold off on the cereal for now.

My first thought was constipation but you say she isn't constipated. Does she seem gassy? You might call the doctor just to have her checked out, it's probably nothing but it's better safe than sorry.
