My neighbour has a 2 year old child and he brings the child to my house and let's me play with her etc.Onr month ago I took her to the mall and while at the mall I had her hair trimmed at the hairdresser's. I realize I should not have done that but I thought at the time it was okay. The FATHER 2 days after I trimmed the child's hair appeared at my door to tell me the haircut was a 'blotched haircut' . I knew right away he was planning to get some money from me for the mistake. Itold him to "count me out as a friend". He said he would. 1 Month later Iwrote a "sorry" letter to him about the incident. He left a message on my answering machine that he was suing me for up to $20,000 because he had to take his family to India for prayers etc the end of Dec and March 2007 again to fix the problem in India. I had put a "spell"on the child. I was crying when I heard this. I spoke with him and he said he is doing it because of what I said about our friendship. What do I offer him as a "friend" ?

You offer him forgiveness. After that, it's entirely on him. your intentions were good and honorable. His were anything but. If he still insists on taking legal action, just present your case as clearly and consisely as possible. Chances are, you'll be scolded for not having gotten permission and may have to pay for a second haircut, but I suspect the jusdge would have a few more (less than kind) words for this rediculous and shameful behavior on his part.

It doesn't sound like hes much of a friend to you - anyone who coule switch so easily from asking you to watch her to saying you put a spell on her is a little off. All you owe him is an apology, which you gave, and maybe 20 bucks for a new haircut. Any suit he brought against you wouldn't be able to go anywhere - it sounds ridiculous. Let him go off and be crazy to someone else - you can't be responsible for how he feels, just your own actions.
