It certainly would seem so at times. You have to take it with a grain of salt.

Nope. The mass media outlets (Big seven) report only whatever their ownership seems fit to report. We are kept in the dark on the pertinent issues unless they are leaked or numerous sources have the story and are reporting it abroad. Many non-consequential stories and sensationalized stories are perfectly dramatized by the mass media in order to grab our attention away from more pressing issues. Have you ever watched local newscasts in two different areas? The degree of difference between a city broadcast and a more rural broadcast is astounding. Around here (Detroit) much of the news focuses on local crime stories and they are told in such a way that they grip you into the mix, even though they don't concern you an inkling as much as what is going on nationally, in Iraq, in D.C., where actual stories that directly affect us and our economies are taking place. Stories that are bewildering to the benefit of the middle-class are reported so fluffily that there full impact is hardly noted. I miss the days of Kronkite, Jennings, Rather, and the like. You kne that when they were reporting the news, it was the truth, and they wouldn't stop with the base story. They would press the issue and find the relevant facts. Today's reporter's are too afraid of their superiors to indulge in such tactics for fear of losing their position. It breaks my heart to see some newscaster report stories that they know are nothing more than a "company line" statement of facts. Thank god for the internet and the ability to get your news elsewhere.

i think there's more money creating arguments then reporting facts. Fox news is entertaining whether you're conservative or not and corporations follow the money. So why have an editorial staff that's made up of centre left, centre right and centre when you can have left and right and they take strong positions that will polarise?
