When unscrewing the fan via left hand threads im assuiming i use a big wrench on the 11/2" nut......and just try and hold the pulley in place?? THanks so much for your help!!!

i know, your 4.3 v6. please re-ask with more information.

ah yes the 4.3 GM engine. well first it depends on if its a TBI motor or a Vortec motor. the TBI motor (like 85 to 93 S-10) actually have four bolts the fan mounts onto. the later 4.3 Vortec engines with the CPI fuel system need the fan to be unthreaded off of the water pump. these you need to either keep the belt on and spin the nut off or get a strap wrench and hold the pulley

Do not remove the serpentine belt first. Put the proper wrench on the nut and hit it with a rubber hammer. There is a special wrench for that purpose and can be rented or loaned by your local auto parts dealer. Autozone in this neck of the woods.

hello i have 96 chevy blazer (4.3l v6 vortec) when i replaced the water pump and fan clutch i had the same problem you having now what i did to hold the pulley in place is remove one of the four small screws that holds the pulley to the water pump and then screw in by the other side and that will lock the pulley and the water pump so you can loose the fan clutch.

your 4.3 what?,and what the heck part of the fan has a 1-1\4 inch nut? Please re-submit with a little more info. and maybe some useful help will come your way.
