Some artists still actually are country, though most of the mainstream artists in modern country tend to either sound more like pop or southern rock. Some newer artists who are country include: Chris Young [it's too bad people didn't really pay attention to his debut album though] Ashton Shepherd Brad Paisley [with the exception of a few non-country instrumentals...although a number of his songs do have strong blues and jazz influences, but he's still as country as an artist that popular can be and I'd say he's more country than 99% of country artists out there right now] Joe Nichols [he seems to have more of a traditional sound too] Jamey Johnson There are a number of others, but those are the ones who came to my mind immediately.

That's because there is no good country anymore. The crap the mainstream country music industry tries to pass off as "country" is pathetic. Most of what you hear on commercial radio is garbage. But, of course, this is true for pretty much the entire corporate, mainstream music scene...not just country.

Now, if you are talking about REAL country like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr., Moon Mullican, and Pasty Cline then I'd have to say I love it.

As for rap: Your comments regarding rap make it clear that you have a very limited exposure to the genre. Yes, much of it sucks. And yes most of the stuff that sucks is the mainstream stuff. But there is lots of underground rap/hip-hop that doesn't even come close to what you are describing.

Lastly, NO I don't think they should be playing songs about "God", "Pride", and "values". That stuff should be instilled in children by their families, not buy some country (or rock, or rap, etc) star on the radio. I don't need someone preaching values and religion to me on the radio... Besides, if you don't like what a certain musician is saying, don't listen to it. If pride in your country and values are so important to you, then maybe you should value our Constitution and the right to freedom of expression that it guarantees us. People are free to sing about whatever they choose.

When Emmis Corp. canned the format of country at KZLA FM in Los Angeles a group was formed at countryboards.com to fight to get country back in Los Angeles.
The format changed August 17th 2006 Now as of today we have 2 country stations many of us are getting 540AM and 1260AM and we are still working on getting an FM station.
There are ALOT of country fans young and old!
Check out countryboards.com you will find MANY fans there who like classic country, current country, bluegrass as well as alternative country as well as the new stuff.
540AM and 1260AM play music from the 70's through today to give everyone the music they like whatever form or time frame of country it may be.

Not all rap music is violent, racist, misogynistic, obscene or hateful - probably just the stuff you've been exposed to. Is it the style of music, or the content of the music, that you don't like? All of the charges you listed could (accurately) apply to certain country songs also. Don't mistake the medium for the message, please.

For the most part I dont like country...I hate the sound. Now there are a few songs that are alright. But just because I dont particularly like country, doesnt mean I listen to rap either...some of that stuff is pretty trashy I agree. Alternative rock is what I like.

I love country Music....and im 16. I've grown up on it, so when people ask me how I listen to it, I just tell them that it aint that bad and they should give it a chance. People dont listen to it much because they have the impression it all like the old music (Like Hank Willams did, Buck,....etc) But its gotten better nowadays.

If popular country music would stop sucking so bad nowadays, then people would like it more.

I like a lot of country music. Mostly older country and I love 90's country because I'm lame like that. But today's country is crap.

Check out Ryan Adams, he's alternative country and he's awesome. Rascal Flatts and Toby Keith and Kenny Chesney need to check him out too and take notes.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe country music is actually the most popular genre in the USA. Just not in most of the Northeast haha. And I'm completely serious - I'll see if I can find a source to back me up!
