At work I notice that even the smartest people, when grouped together, become idiots. 2 heads are better than one seems to be okay, but anything more and stupidity reigns. Anyone else notices this?

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Well, when you think about it, the greatest, most logical acheivements of the human mind are things like Mathematics, which can be devised in a vacuum completely independent of interaction with other humans. The softer "sciences," and many of the complete non-sciences, almost always involve some kind of human relationships. Human language is excellent for describing our daily lives, but utterly useless for describing mathematical equations. Most humans can't even think mathematically- it is only the gifted few who have the nature and discipline to take advantage of the brain's greatest power.

The key to our greatest intellect, then, is completely separate from everything we do to interact with other human beings. Therefore, there is no reason to think that humans who get together could possibly be more intelligent than a intelligent individual thinking all on her own.

People want to fit in, and to be honest, it's easier to get along when you're all just joking about and behaving as fools do. You are the better person in the group, so you can stand above them. If they really wanted you to join, you MAY or may not start behaving the same. The important thing is that you keep yourself and let no one change who you are and your perceptions.

People in groups tend to be assholes. Very observant of you. One on one people are pretty cool but in a group people tend to lose their minds. I prefer to either be alone or with only one or two people at a time. It is the only way to have a decent conversation.

We can all be "idiots" at times regardless of IQ. There is chaos where you have too many "leaders" together. That doesn't make them idiots but it does make them poor communicators.
