I've done public speaking, and the key is to think about yourself as the audience members. Would you want the speaker to stutter and murmur and act uncomfortable? No. They won't laugh at you if you fumble. Have your notes made out in front of you on the podium, and when you print them out, put them in bold and large font so you don't have to squint. I draw a little line on the side where I know I need to pause. Look at random audience members for eye contact. Stand up straight and speak a little louder than normal, even if a microphone is there.
Just act like this is totally normal and you're proud to be announcing it. And most importantly...SMILE!!!

Well in my experience people always understand. I once gave a speech as a freshman in public speaking in college, and before that I was sort of the 'cool' kid in the class. But up in the front, I was obviously quite nervous - the teacher had to tell me to make eye contact with the students, and I could see they were embarrassed for me. This one girl looked down at her desk, cuz it was kind of like I was being knocked off a pedestal? I remember seeing this one kid smirking - I thought. But the thing was I felt too confused to really know. Then everyone went, and now whenever I see the kids from the class they wave or nod to me. Even the girl who looked down, and the guy I thought had smirked.. In other words, I think it humanizes you in a way, actually makes you MORE likeable - provided you're likeable in the first place :) which most people are.. There's no easy tips, really. Just understand that everyone understands, you know? And it's a really, really, good skill to learn :)

I have actually come to enjoy public speaking and the trick is to speak about somthing you really know. You should practice, practice, practice and while you are practicing speak slowly, clearly and a notch or 2 abouve your regular speaking voice. Soon you will sound like a pro and will be confident enough with your speach that you won't even have to be nervous about a shaky voice!
Good Luck!!!

I don't really like public speaking either, but when I do it I think that I am playing a part and suddenly it isn't me up there, but the person I am playing. That seems crazy but it takes away my jitters :) Good luck!!!

Just act! Act like who you wish you were. Act confident and in control. Tell yourself that you can do it and believe it. Don't think about what could happen...think about what you have to do and think about how well you're going to do it.
