I went to camp in 5th grade, and asked that question. And my leader said that all foods are made by dirt. and since plant is made by dirt and animal eat dirt, there is no food thats not plant or animal.

There are such things as edible clays, but whether they would be considered a food ... I wonder if sunlight or mineral water could qualify ... it's an interesting question.
