Well, here's the deal. I'm 18 and really feel uncomfortable talking to my mom about this stuff. I was just wondering what the average size of a vaginal hole is, considering the girl is a virgin and hasn't used a tampon or anything. I have been getting a little worried as of lately. Can any of you women see the "hole" itself, in a relaxed position? The thing is, when pressure is exerted on mine, then it slightly opens up. It also looks small. So, what's the average size supposed to be? Mine looks to be about the size of a straw, but when it stretched to that size, it begins to hurt a little. I've only recently began questioning what is "normal" and when I look down there, you basically see NO hole, but once I push against the flesh, it opens up. I can place one finger in, not comfortably, and certainly not pleasurably. I will go to a gyno when I am 21, but right now, I am just curious. Anything is appreciated

Our vagina's are designed to accommodate the male organ which hopefully will be larger in diameter than a straw. ;) It is designed to stretch to the size of a new born babies head during child birth, It should not be so rigid that a finger causes discomfort. The next time you explore down there use some type of lubricant and relax. If you are tensing up, it will too. If you tense up while trying to insert a tampon then it will probably be misplaced and that is truly uncomfortable. If, after relaxation, and lubrication you feel discomfort you should see a doctor. Don't be afraid to talk to mom about anything concerning your health. We are here to guide and assist our children. We love you all and want the best for you all. Trust your mom to be there for you but, remember this. If you don't talk to her, how will she know there is a problem.

It would feel uncomfortable putting a finger in because you are still a virgin. Your vagina has not stretched yet, and you probably still have your hymen ( a little flap of skin that covers the hole) in tact. This gets broken when you have sex for the first time. That is why some women bleed the first time they have sex and why it can hurt the first time as well. I would not worry at all, you are perfectly normal. You will probably find that your mum would be very understanding if you spoke to her. I know that if you were my daughter I would be proud that you are still a virgin. There are not many 18 year old virgins out there now.

penetration is primarily for the males pleasure...the female is pleasured by stimulation of the clitoris. The vaginal opening is made of very stretchy skin. I wouldn't worry so much about it's actual size right now... If it is uncomfortable to insert one finger, perhaps you are just too dry. When women are sexually aroused, they create a natural lubricant that aids in penetration. See the OB GYN now, you should not wait untill you are 21... check here for a diagram... http://www.vulvalpainsociety.org/html/selfexam.htm

I suspect there is no problem at all with your size. There are occasionally women who experience pain with sex, but there are also remedies and ways to work with that. Rather than thinking the worst, I suggest you get to the gynecologist now. Not because of this issue, but because you should start having pelvic exams and pap smears, etc. now not later, just like you would have a physical exam each year. I'd suggest a female doctor, but that's really up to you. I imagine she'll ask you if you're concerned about anything, and you should muster up the courage to ask about this. Regardless, if there's an "issue," she's going to bring it up herself. As I say, my guess is there's no problem at all.

If you feel uncomfortable talking to your mom about this.....schedule an appt. with a gynacologist. Im so glad i did! Not for the same reason, but I was having problems of my own and I saw my OBGYN and she helped me so much! She answered all of my questions as well.

uummmmm...not sure what is considered normal. All women are different. You shouldn't wait til you're 21 to go to the gyno by the way.
