Why are people who can look pretty on camera and pull-off a convincing crying scene (thanks to eye-drops), and people who can throw a football really far or a basketball through a hoop paid WAYYYYYY more than our firefighters who put their lives on the line for others, our mental health professionals who dedicate their professional lives to helping others improve the quality of their lives, or our teachers who instill knowledge in our future generation?

I don't think people who act, sing, or play sports don't have their purpose, but should they be making more money than they know what to do with while the rest of us struggle?

It's hard to want to dedicate your life to a worthy cause when providing entertainment value is what is rewarded.

Sorry, I know, it's just a fact of life in this society, and it does no good to be bitter about it, which I'm not. Just frustrated.

And I'm SICK of 'TomKat'! Ugh!

I agree. My husband is a teacher and I am a nurse, we should have all that these celeb's have, but we don't. We impact peoples lives everyday and we get no reward. He teaches the future of us and I help to heal the sick and wounded.....It is crappy, but I go to bed each night knowing that I really do make a difference.

Yeah, you can say that, but think about how many people have to buy tabloids, and other entertainment magazines, to keep up with their favorite celebrities lives because they have no lives.

There are many people like that, who need celebrities to cure them of their boredom, and to make them feel good, when something bad happens to a celebrity.

This makes being a celebrity very hard, as they have paparazzi following them wherever they go waiting for the moment when they pick their nose or get dumped, just so billions of losers will feel better about themselves.

Celebrities help people get through their day, and while it's not the same thing as physically saving someones life like a fireman, it's still something. And many celebrities were poor, and many celebrities use their massive amounts of money to help others through charities and stuff.

I'm personally against tabloids but as long as there are celebrities, people will be interested.

You say, that "it's hard to want to dedicate your life to a worthy cause when providing entertainment value is what is rewarded", but the entertainment industry is a very difficult field to get into, unless you're a child of a celebrity, and to make it big, many celebrities had to have many rough years of their lives.

I totally agree. Unfortunately, it's part of our culture that the renumeration for people in the entertainment and sports worlds is much higher than the occupations that are really important. It's totally twisted.

I could never understand Americans' fascination with celebrities. It's so stupid, and such a waste to be thinking about. There are more people who voted for American Idol in 2006 than for President in 2004. There are probably more people familiar with Britney Spears than know who the Secretary of State is.

I agree. Have you ever seen some of those homes and cars that celebrities have on The Fabulous Life on Vh1? Some of them have houses all over the globe that they don't even use. It seems like such a waste.

Live your life and lot others do the same.

The media is the culprit and promotes people as a product and they are good at it.

It's not all about money, if firemen are paid a million dollar, will they continue working in fire dept., will they risk their lives or save their self to enjoy the million dollar ?

Writers of movies should get the credit, not the robots who read the script.
