1. New York Mutuals - National League, 1876
2. New York Metropolitans - American Association, 1883-87
3. New York Gothams/Giants - NL, 1883-1957
4. Brooklyn Bridegrooms/Dodgers - AA, 1884-89; NL, 1890-1957
5. Brooklyn Gladiators - AA, 1890
6. Brooklyn Wonders - Players League, 1890
7. New York Giants - Players League, 1890 (a different team than #3, despite having the same name)
8. New York Highlanders/Yankees - American League, 1903-present
9. Brooklyn Tip-Tops - Federal League, 1914-15
10. New York Mets - NL, 1962-present

If you mean New York State, rather than City, you can add 7 teams: The NL Buffalo Bisons (1879-85), the PL Buffalo Bisons (1890), the Buffalo Blues (FL, 1915), the Rochester Hop Bitters (AA, 1890), the NL Syracuse Stars (NL, 1879), the AA Syracuse Stars (1890), and the Troy Trojans (NL, 1879-82). A team called the Newark Peppers also played in the Federal League in 1915, if you want to consider the NYC metro area.

San Francisco Giants (New York Giants, Los Angeles ( Brooklyn Dodgers) Dodgers, New York Yankees, and the New York Mets.

At one time their were three teams in New York.

They could probably support a 3rd team currently.

There was a team that played in NY in the late 1930's, early 1940's called the Colrox Dodgers. My Dad played on this team and I had a team picture but can't find it. Anyone have any history or knowledge they can share. Thank you.
