The reason The Jungle was banned, according to the American Library Association is:

"Banned from public libraries in Yugoslavia (1929). Burned in the Nazi bonfires because of Sinclair's socialist views (1933). Banned in East Germany (1956) as inimical to communism. Banned in South Korea (1985). Sources: Banned Books, 387 B.C. to 1978 A.D., 4th edition; Anne Lyon Haight and Chandler B. Grannis. Index on Censorship." See the first link below.

The American Library Association also has a website where they provide information on how to find out why a book was banned. See the second link below.

People sometimes think that, if a book is banned, that must mean it can't be obtained anywhere at any time. In fact, when a book is banned, it just means that it was removed from some location based on the objections of some group or individual. Just because a book was banned in one library or one town or one country doesn't mean it isn't available elsewhere. Further, a book banned at one point in time may not be banned at a different point in time.

If a book is challenged, it means that someone is trying to have the book removed. If a book is banned, it means that the book was actually removed. See the third link below for more information on challenged and banned books.

"The Jungle" isn't banned in the USA, though it has been banned in other countries. It was even burned in Nazi Germany, because Sinclair was a socialist. The book itself is a very shocking account of life for the poverty-stricken at the turn of the 20th century, and for that reason it is still very controversial.

Banned? I can't believe it - It may have been the biggest reason for meat standards in the food industry. I read it in High School as a mandatory reading. Now it's Banned? First of all - NO books should be banned - SSounds like Nazi Germany to me.

banned where? You can get at the library. I read it. It was supposed to be an expose, but i thought it was more about being uneducated, and individuals not caring much about one another

It showed insight to the horrible conditions of the meat packing industry. I assume that the government wouldn't want people knowing what horrible conditions that our meat is/was processed.
