I need to find the fule for this given function. Please help me to understand how to work this out.

More concisely, f(-5)=-8, f(-3)=-2, f(-2)=1, f(1)=10.

f(x) can equal anything as long as it fits these points. It seems to form a linear line as shown above...

I believe you are looking for the equation of a straight line here:

We can get the slope of that line by taking one pair (-5, -8) and subtracting it from another (-3, -2) to get:

m = change in y / change in x = (-8 - -2) / (-5 - -3) = 3

This gives us a partial equation of y = 3x +b

Plugging in one of these pair into the partial equation, we can solve for b:

10 = 3(1) +b
b = 7

Thus f(x) = 3x +7
