With no offense to you at all,,, I feel exactly the opposite.

To me, even with fantastic modern architecture, Steel, Glass, and Concrete are COLD, univiting, and a BLIGHT on any land/sky scape.

That said, I'm assuming I'm much older than you are, and I have a suggestion. One of my favorite people of all time in his genre is/was Frank Lloyd Wright. While he did design some structures of glass and steel,, his most memorable were created from more "natural" substances.

On another note,,, certainly glass, as a refelctive surface, defines motion, action, constantly, and I've lived in NYC and many other cities, but Gimme an old, brick, courthouse, across from a town square bandstand, any day of the week, to define a comfort zone.

Good Q though. Thanks.

Rev. Steven

I justthought of this,,and it strikes me as an oxymoron in its irony. People want so often to use as much glass as they can,,, for a view,,, but want that to be a one way thing??? Odd I think.

Brick walls are solid and have a heavy feel, glass is light and airy giving the open feeling, more light and color which most people react too in a positive way instead of depressing.

Brick walls are less colourful while glass buildings reflect surroundings, it is a way of looking at it I guess.

no it isn't you. Many people think of brick buildings depressing because they accumulate mold, dirt, and grime. Glass is a happier texture because it reflects the surrounding. It also gives a feeling of freedom. They are also cleaned on a regular basis. Glass lets people think there isn't anything hiding in the building.

No it's not just you. Consider: "Let there be light." (footnote below) Glass permits light, brick does not. Living things require light - different living things in different measure. No big mystery there. The problem, of course, is durability and fit. You wouldn't believe how problematic windows are to building designers. Not that they do a whole lot better with much simpler materials.

glass bldgs seem much "happier" because they reflect light and it brightens the area around them.
