More specifically, I just need to know if the receiver for the Wavebird controller will fit in the Wii sockets.

It should--the Wii has connections for the Gamecube controllers and the wireless controller has a receiver that plugs into the controller slot. As long as the Wavebird doesn't interfere with another player using the Wii-mote there shouldn't be any problems. The Wii will read the Wavebird like a normal controller.

Hope that helps--I've got a Wavebird that I can't wait to use on the Wii. Good luck finding a Wii and let me know if something comes up!

For GameCube games, yeah. The Wii has four game cube controller slots, but they don't work for Wii games. They're just there for use with the GameCube backwards compatability.

On proper of the Wii there are some plastic flaps. once you raise the flaps there are the 4 universal Gamecube controller ports and a pair of slots for memory playing cards. i have tried myself, the Wavebird matches contained in the controller ports superb.
