I have heard of people saying/doing stupid things while inebriated. I am scared that I will flirt with my friend after a few drinks. I don't want to lose a friendship b/c of my lust/fascination with her. And, I want to go out and socialize w/ her, but I am afraid I will say/do something stupid with alcohol there in my system to help loosen me up. (for example, afraid I will flirt w/ her or try to kiss her or whatever) Am I overthinking this situation? What does everyone here think?

By the way, she has flirted with me in the past. But, now she is seeing someone else. I don't want to tell her I like her b/c I want to remain friends with her.

In my experience alcohol can definitely assist people in doing things they wouldn't normally do without alcohol in their system. I don't think you would do anything stupid because of the fact that you are aware of this fear you have of acting innapropriate. It's the chance we all take when hanging out with friends who are drinking, that they may do something they wouldn't normally do. If she is a true friend she will laught with you and tell you to stop your just being drunk. If your obnoxious when you get drunk however she may not want to hang out with you anymore. Maybe you should just be honest with her and get it out in the open so that you both may enjoy the evening and you already know how she would react. She may surprise you and tell you that she would be delighted to make out with you. '-)

This sounds like it could be a self fulfilling prophecy. You are worried about doing something you want to do if you drink. Future complications are why you dont want to kiss her. When you drink, those considerations fly right out the window. It is planted in your subconscience now that you may do this when you drink, and I bet your id is just thirsting for a drink to bust out.

My advice is, don't drink at all when you are with her, unless of course you truly don't mind your feelings seeping out.

I would say no don't drink you don't know how you will act and you may just do what your thinking. I know I had a small crush on my ex's friend and when we had some drinks the real me came out and I kissed him smack on the mouth..(sleazy yes but hey I was drunk)

if you dont know how alcohol is going to affect you, then id say your not a drinker. dont drink more than one drink. that is not the time to be experimenting with alcohol. it affects every body differently.some bad. some good. remember only one.

Drinking in moderation will be a real help in this situation, but y'all may just have to confront it when you're both sober one day.

alcohol can bring out the worst in people but also can lower your guard and have people share things they would not ordinarily share
