It depends on th pregnancy.... my wife went from 4 to 10 in 45 minutes with my girl......

She went from 1 to 10 with our boy in 2 hours!

Our doctors have said however that it could take anywhere from a day to a few weeks to go from 1 to labor.

You could also think your in Labor, and then find out that you are still at 1.... Thats called a Braxton Hicks Contraction. Its false labor.

I guess what I am saying is there is no real answer.... Most hospitals will not accept you unless you are 4 anyways.

My wife was sent home twice when she was pregnat with Drew, but sure accepted quick when she was 4.

By the way, Emma was born slow (2 hours of pushing!).... Drew was born qucikly (10 minutes of pushing).

It all varies.

dilated is not the only factor...are you effaced yet? The cervix has to open, but it also has to thin out so that the baby's head ends up passing through a 10 cm hole that looks like saran wrap.
You have to be close to 10 and 100% before things start happening...
I will give you some advise of an old black nurse I worked with in my residency....she told a lady that was in almost every night for a week one night "now listen, you get your man, go down to the car and get it on...and do it twice"
the lady came back in an hour and delivered in an hour

If I could answer this I would be rich. There is a huge range - this could be days or weeks. Some people stay dilated for weeks and some progress quicker. There is no real way to know this.
