1994 Ford escort wagon 122,000miles Ok I drove the car from one location to another about 1 1/2 hr. drive car was parked in driveway I was not operating it due to no license. I went to start the car after 2 weeks and the battery was dead. So after about another 4 weeks I put a battery from a similar car into it and everything in the car works it turns over sounds good while it's trying to start but will not fully start. I recently had a problem with the fuel pump failing . I had it looked at and tested but was told it was fine. Could it be sparks plugs?...dirty plugs?. I dont know any mechanics and seeing as i dont have a license I'm not going to pay a large amount of money to have it towed to fix it..I just want to get it started so I can store it...now the battery that I put into the car was a larger battery it was for a 97 mercury sable wagon 6 cylinder mine is a 4 cylinder with a 1.9 liter could that be the problem...Im a female ...he he he I have no clue..please please help

Cheap and simple. Get starting fluid. Take out air cleaner. Shoot fluid down port for 2 seconds. Start car. Repeat if necessary. If that don't work find a shop that tows for free.
P.S. start dating a mechanic.

Dirty plugs or more likely bad plug wires. I have a 1999 escort wagon. When the plug wires are bad then it acts like the fuel filter is junked up. New set of wires wire cost about 20-25 dollars. 4 wires, each are a different length. Just replace one at a time and try. If that doesnt do it then you may need plugs as well. If it ran before battery went dead then this should help a lot. Tip: always start your escort every couple of days just so it doesnt do this again. Gotta start mine every so often just cause it will do the same kind of stuff if i dont. Keeps your battery charged as well. If you are storing it in a storage facility ask if they will start your car every so often. Otherwise you'll be putting a new battery in it when you take it out of storage. good luck
P.S. dont need to hold gas pedal down if its fuel injected as this will surely flood your engine. If the problem is lack of gas then holding the gas down will probably not help. Thats a fuel pump or filter issue. Try the plugs (properly gapped) and wires and you will most likely have it running again

Sounds like the timing belt went out. Does the car turn over? Does it sound abnormal when you are cranking it...like maybe it's cranking faster than usual? If you shoot some starting fluid into the air filter housing, does it start up momentarily? If not, I'm willing to bet it's the timing belt. If so, you have a problem with the fuel system. Sorry I can't be more help, but this will get you closer. Good luck.

But the psychic mechanic envisions that there is a problem with the fuel pump, it is not capable of producing enough head pressure, it may pump fuel, but not at enough pressure to pressurize the lines. replace your fuel pump. The fuel leaks back down the lines. or really pump the throttle hard while cranking the engine for one duty cycle so that the vacuum produced will help the fuel into the lines from the weak pump.
Another thing is that if the gas tank were full it would also help push fuel through the line.

the engine's cold; see if the choke's working. Could also be that the gas tank may have accumulated condensation (water) in it. Try some "Dry Gas" available at K-mart or Walmart or auto part stores. It comes in a plastic bottle; just pour it in the tank with some fresh gasoline and see if that helps. A tune-up may help, as may a new ignition module; ford had a big recall on ignition modules once. Good luck with it; ask guys who know a lot about cars.

it definatly wont be from having a bigger battery if anythign it would turn the motor over faster (a Good Thing).You very well could have dirty plugs. Plugs aren't that expensive so i would start there and if the problem is still there you might have a plugged fuel line any where from the tank to the motor but i would start with the plugs first.

The engine might be flooded (yes this does happen to fuel injected cars). To clear a flood, follow these instructions;
Without turning the ignition on, depress the gas peddle all the way to the floor.
With your foot to the floor ( don't let go) crank the engine and keep cranking for approximately 30 seconds (don't go over or you will burn up the starter)
If it does not fire up, repeat in 5 minutes.
Once running let go of the peddle.

the most draw on a battery is the starter motor. Your radio works because there remains sufficient means in the battery for it to operate. The heater motor, lights fixtures and wipers could also artwork now. leap the battery from a motorcar that is operating (constructive to constructive and detrimental to detrimental) it really is going to commence. in the journey that your climate is amazingly chilly you'll have an same problem back. once you've an unique battery (AC Delco) on your automobile. it really is time to modify it. they many times very last 6 to eight years in a motorcar that hasn't ever had an electric powered problem
