My English teacher hates me basically and I need a reccomendation from her by January. I don't have much time, and I am not sure what to do. It feels like in class she picks on me and seems to have a sharp eye on me specifically. I am really worried and not at all sure what to do.

Talk to her.

Tell her that your life hinges on her good will and try to put in more effort. Sit on the first bench for a coulpa days. That will tell her that you are intrested in the class atleast. And ask intelligent doubts.Preferrably staying back after the bell.

Usually teachers behave that way if

1) you are a smart-a** and think you know more than the teacher or
2) if the teacher thinks that you are not putting in effort and think that things should come to you easily.

Being a human being and a youngest, the problem is usually a misunderstanding on your part. Your instructor is not picking on you because she does not like you. If she does not like you, she would ignore you.
Do the hardest thing in the world and give up your opinion and attitude about the situation.
Next time she calls on you, do not take it as criticism. Try to answer the question or accept the observation or the statement she is making. Try to think of the answer being something other than what you think it is at that moment. Try this, answer or agree with her. If you usually smile, don't. If you usually are quiet or mum, talk. In other words, take a different approach to her. See her as an adult friend, not a person of authority who is judging you.
You will do better, hopefully. What do you have to lose?

Express your passion for the English subject, how you go home and read about famous authors of literature like edger allen poe. When you feel like she has soften up ask her what you can do to advance in the class. Express how you need a letter of recommendation and that without one it may hinder your chances of getting into your said choice of schools/program. I am 100% certain this will work because I have done it! English teachers love english majors!!!!!! But thats your story and you should stick to it. But you are going to need to be a good student like dazzle her with paticapation.

It's time to pour a little honey on the "problem". After class, very respectfully, walk up to your teacher, look her in the eye, and ask her point blank "Would you please give me a recomendation?" and go from there. If there is a problem that needs to be solved first, then this will be teachers opportunity to speak up. Be brave, it's worth it. Just remember, don't and I repeat; DON'T get angry even if you don't get the answer you want the first time. I don't know why your teacher would "hate" you, but maybe it's not about you at all. Maybe your sensitive to certain looks from others or maybe your teacher see's potential in you that you don't, and she get's like that because she doesn't want you to waste your talent. If your anything like me, you may tend to take things personally when you shouldn't. Maybe teacher just has a scowl on her face and doesn't realize it. Now on the other hand, if you put a tack on her chair, just grovel and apologize. It's worth it right?? Don't take her personally okay? Just suck it up and get what you need from her :)
