Prophse. In prophase there is a breakdown of nuclear membrane, condensation of chromatin into chromosomes, etc. In telophase, there is formation of nuclear membrane and decondensation of chromosomes into chromatin. The two stages are therefore antithetical.

Changes in telophase, the last stage of mitosis, mimic the opposite changes to prophase, the first stage of mitosis.

In prophase, the chromatin condenses to form tightly bound chromosomes. Also, the nuclear membrane begins to disappear and the chromosomes prepare for metaphase.

In telophase, the sister chromosomes begin to migrate to opposite poles of the cell to begin cytoplasmic division. The stage ends with cytokinesis where the single cell splits into 2 daughter cells coontaing their own set of chromosomes.
