The best ever Christmas was when I was in the 5th grade. My Dad had to have emergency surgery, just before Christmas. My Dad was raised in an orphanage home. Christmas to him was about giving to his kids, the things he didn't have. My Parents had nothing for Christmas that year. It didn't bother us as much as it bothered them. Anyways Dad was a Carpenter, and extremely crafty. My Dad made my sister and I each a pair of stilts. they were made out of 2x4's and a little piece of wood for our feet. We played with those stilts forever!!!!. The other kids were jealous of our gifts and wanted our Dad to make them a set. As the years went by, My Dad asked us as adults, What our Best Christmas was, We all told him it was the year he made us the stilts. His eyes teared up. All those years, he felt he failed his family, but it was the love that we cherished the most.

The best gift I ever I received was my brother. My parents were having a really difficult time with their marriage and there was a ton of stress put on the whole family because my dad had been unfaithful to my mom and still was/is. My younger brother took over a lot of my dad's responsibility helping out with the younger kids at the house while they tried to work things out. One day this past Sept. he didn't come home from his usual run Sat run and was gone all night, I called some friends and we searched with my sister where we thought he might have gone all the time thinking the worst, he was finally found by the police Sun afternoon, and had spent the night all alone by the interstate thinking about killing himself because he didn't think he loved God enough. Ever since that day I thank God for giving me back my brother and my friends for helping me look for him.

Several weeks later he was reading his Bible and said he knew he loved God and told us all so.

from my dad, the truth! that was the best gift he ever gave to me.
I remember he read to me from the bible and told me bible stories. Told me to trust in God that he would always be there for me. I was sad and alone but he would come home and then everything was ok again. Then my parents got a divorce.
He wasn't there anymore, but the things he taught me was.
Only as a kind of adult do I realize just how important what he taught me was. I will always be grateful to him for that.
