don't know much about the second part, but i can answer the first part. The key differences are that the Muslims feel that people like Mouhammad the prophet and Jesus were people, not incarnations of god, and they feel god is someone you should not make images off, and the christians view God in a more loving manner, versus the Muslims feel that he should be more feared and worshiped. The tension really connects to the Crusades, every since Christians tried to take the Holy Land, Muslims and Christians have had much tension. We have sort of made it our jobs if we belong to either faith to dislike the other for not because the other is some evil satanic worship group, but because we have kind of been taught only our religion is correct. I kind of find it funny that Muslims and Christians and even Jews all try to hate each other, even though our religions derive from the same roots, instead of getting angry at people we consider pagan, becuase they worship many gods, or worship satan..

Both religions believe in one God. Both follow a prophet. After the deaths of the prophets, men have used their teachings to gain worldly
powers.
Men are still trying to gain more power, one over another, hence the tension.
Too many generalizations are made about religions. Everyone is an individual and has their own beliefs. When you give your sensibilities up to follow someone else's, you're losing your own way. That way leads toward fanaticism.

Judeo-Christianity and Islam both began with the two sons of Abraham. One, Isaac the one promised to Abraham and Sarah by God to fulfill His Covenant within.
And the other, Ishmael. Actually the firstborn. Born from Abrahams adultry with Sarahs handmaiden the Egyptian Haggar.
The son whom God said his decendants would be as wild donkeys at war with Gods chosen.
Christianity and Islam are far from similar. Christianity is based upon the Loving Grace of a Father who has redeemed His children from sin so they may know Him intimately.
Islam teaches that it is a sin to claim you have such a relationship with Allah. They teach Allah is a mystery and cannot be known as a Father, only obeyed.
A follower of Islam can perform all that is required by Islam and still not be assured of Eternal life.
The Bible states in John 3:16 "For God so loved the World that He gave His only begotten son;that whosoever believes on Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."
Our Salvation has nothing to do with how many religious hoops we can jump through for we, a fallen, sinful man can never reach God on our own.
Therefore the only God worth our Worship is the one who cared enough to reach out to us.
Islam commands it's followers to die for it's god.
Christ died for me, that I might live Eternally with Him.
Islam is about World Domination
Christianity is about me surrendering to God.

One key difference.. Christians separate church from state.. "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, render unto God what is God's. Our kingdom is not of this world... etc... Islam sees church and state as one and the same.
