how do you estimate 25 5/18 - 9 11/17?

i do not understand how you estimate those numbers. anyone explain please?

For an estimation, assume that the denominators of the fractions are the same (either 17 or 18).

5/18 is a little less than 6/18 which is 1/3 which is 3/9
11/17 is close to 10/18 which is 5/9

25 + 3/9 - 9 + 5/9 =
24 + 9/9 + 3/9 - 9 + 59 = 75 + 3/9

5/18 is less than half ignore it
11/17 is more than half so round it to the next unit digit
25-10
=15
