I have a female syrian hamster she is around 4 months old i recently bought a male who is now a little over a month. I dont know exactly how old males have to be to breed but i've heard they have to be at least four weeks. I've tried introducing them every day for four days (assuming one of those days she has to be in heat) but the female has twice tried to fight the male and twice ignored him completly. I introduced them in a mutual area so neither would fell territorial or threatened. Does she not want to mate because he is too young or am I doing something wrong? I've heard that when in heat females can freeze in a position with their tales straight up when pet on the back. This is something she has never done. It is possible that I am not allowing them enough contact because i watch them very carefully and while I do allow them to sniff one another, i am very paranoid and seporate them at the first sigh of fighting. Any information is appreciated.

If I put them together, The female will viciously attack the male and he could die being that he is about 1/2 her size
