I hope this question doesn't offend anybody, as it is not meant to. I know a man who is closely connected with me and my family. The only thing is, I have a sneaking suspicion he's gay, and I don't want to come out and ask him, because the circumstances make that too awkward. However, I don't feel like my "sneaking suspicion" is enough. Are there anyways without making things obvious to find out which side he butters his bread? I don't want to hurt his feelings, he's a very sweet guy. Please don't post anything offensive.

Sometimes your suspicions are true; sometime they are not.

I would not ask anyone something like that outright, unless I knew him pretty well and for a long time -- and the situation was right.

What you might do is ask more neutral questions like: Have you been dating lately? What do you think about this dating situation?
(Things like that.)

One of the quickest ways to lose a friend is to ask about his or her sexual orientation. Be very careful. Many people, especially men, are very sensitive about the issue. Some will go to their graves not admitting their orientation to even their closest friends, still thinking that they pulled a fast one on them. The closet is often the last line of defense for people.

You can watch carefully to see how he responds in the presence of attractive women. That's probably the only real way to tell besides asking. Anything else is just gender stereotyping, and is more than likely wrong.

does it really matter if hes Gay? you said so your self his a very sweet guy and you don't want to hurt his feelings. I think you should just let him be until his ready to come out. If you ask him and its not true you could cause a rift in you relationship, or if it is true and his not ready to admit it to himself then you could cause him to back off completely causing anguish for your friend. I think he will come to you when his ready, so until then Sweetie just carry on like normal : )

there is no realway to tell unless he tells you or you catch him kissing another guy. Maybe talk about donating to AIDS charities and see what he says and how he feels about issues like that
