I have been in this field for a little over 8 years now. I have been having a little bit of bleeding with this pregnancy, I am 10 weeks along. My doctor examined me and said my cervix looks closed and feels firm, but he has scheduled an ultrasound for me to check the length of the cervix and also make sure baby is doing fine. My question pertains more to work, I have to do alot of lifting and transferring of clients, as they have cerebral palsy. One is much easier to help then the other and I have the go ahead to work with him as much as needed, but I do not want to make other employees feel as though I am shirking duty, however I also do not feel like informing every employee of what exactly is going on in my uterus. Any suggestions on how to handle that, or have you been in the same sort of situation? What did you do to sort of make up for the harder work that you were unable to do?

My boss knows about the situation fully.

It sounds like you need to ask for assistance when transferring clients, even the slightest bit of lifting is too much. The first trimester of pregnancy is the most crucial and delicate. You need to be real careful. If you don't want to make it seem like your shirking duty, then exchange a favor for a favor. No, you do not have to tell them what is going on in your uterus, however, most women who have experienced childbirth will understand. You can even give a little thank you (something small, inexpensive) the thought that counts goes a long way.

You need to request equipment and/or extra help for the lifting, whether you're pregnant or have a bad back, or no matter what the condition is. You shouldn'e tell other people about the bleeding, it's TMI.
