Yes, and I agree, but it was closer than Vegas.

If you go to the two in Connecticut you would be overwhelmed. Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, which I have been to too many times, are gigantic and modern. Foxwoods is the largest casino in the world, including bigger than anything in Las Vegas. They are also half done with building a joint venture with MGM for another gigantic casino they will own and MGM will run. Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun both get big name entertainers and have some very elegant restaurants. Typically they comp rooms and shows to even middle range players. They draw players from all of the large cities in the Northeast (and that's a lot of players).

Well, it depends upon what casinos you have been to. Some of the smaller casinos have just slots and maybe a poker room. However, 2 of the 5 LARGEST casinos in the world are run by Native Americans. Foxwoods is the largest casino in the world, or one of them. I will put Foxwoods up to any casino, anywhere in the world!! Moheghan Sun is a top 5 casino as well, although they don't have a poker room.

Some aren't so bad.
I have family in New Mexico..so along the way to Santa Fe...there are tons of casinos. Some are pretty tacky but there are a few that are close to Vegas standards.

Yes I have once. I'm from northern Michigan. The one we went to was in Petosky and it wasn't all that bad except for the fact I lost 80 bucks.
