Alternator - backyard mechanics. I not a mechanic but common sense tells you that if you havent changed your plugs and wires in a while you start there. Alternators can be tested. Start vehicle and disconnect battery terminal (one side) and check between positive cable terminal and ground cable terminal with a meter while vehicle is running. You should read 13-14 volts. If so alternator is GOOD. If you do not get around 13 -14 volts then the alternator is most likely bad. The fact the you start your car says your alternator is good. If it was indeed defective then what would occur is as follow:
1. Car would have problems similar to yours
2. Battery would drain (alternator not charging)
3. Once battery drains, you would have problem starting car, possibly needing jumpstarts more frequently.
4. Total vehicle failure. Vehicle would just not start, battery being too drained to provide proper starter current.

It certainly can be anything but in my opinion most people usually do not change plugs and wires nearly often enough. If you have not done so, it may help your situation by doing so. good luck. Also checking to make sure battery cables are connected tightly and securely as a bad connection could cause similar problems with charging or lack thereof

NEVER replace a part till you know what the problem is All these amateurs wanting 2 points. There is no way of knowing what your problem is without a little testing. If you can get your car to a parts store they will probably test your alternator and battery for you. Wouldn't hurt to call and ask first. If it is alternator check the fuse before getting a new one or you can check the fuse before you go .Could be as simple as that. The battery seems to be doing ok from the way you explain it. Check for loose wire on alternator also. Some very simple things can cause much trouble.
