Science fiction is no different than any other kind of fiction. Do you mean some kind of horror show? Monsters, ghouls, vampires, swamp thing created from industrial waste now out to kill everyone in the town kind of thing?

There are amazing, inspiring, uplifting stories told in books and movies of all genres - it depends on the story and the maturity and sensitivity of your 12 year old.

My youngest is 12 and we watch movies of all kinds. We are also avid readers. If you would like some specific recommendations or reviews feel free to email me. Just click on my pic on the left and you will see my profile and be able to email me from there.

Hope that helps!

Jen

yeah i think any book is good as long as it is unscary or appropriate for small children. learning to read is a great thing, and for children who already know how to read then reading more is just as great, because it helps boost vocabulary and spelling skills.
