Why do the people who live in cities that could be attacked by terrorists hate Bush for increasing the threat of terrorism and the people who live in places that will never be hit love Bush for protecting the US? Bush lost LA, DC, NY, and won Kansas, Alabama, Oklahoma.

It's a lot of things in play - I cannot write enough to explain the dynamics that made southerners vote for Bush and think that he's protecting the US, but I will try.

I lived and worked in NY on 9/11. I saw the towers fall. I now live in the bible belt.

Southerners are far from NY, although they kept up with the news on 9/11 - they don't quite get the impact of what happened on that fateful day.

I can see why - they do not care for the north. I have been called Yankee so many times I/m sick of it. They tell me to discourage Yankees from moving south. And they have not forgotten they lost the Civil War.

The military bases are a major source of income and employment and entertainment too (night clubbing)- southern folks are very proud of them.

NYers do not dislike the military but hey do not pay as much attention to the 'uniform' as they do in the south. The military bases are not front and center as they are in the south.

And (the most important) Bible Belt means BIBLE. George Bush knew what he was doing when he made these people feel he was a godly man! Even blacks in the south voted for him because of his stance on biblical beliefs about homosexuality.

The citizens in my town (I live in a rural area) believe in an eye for an eye - they wanted revenge for 9/11 and it does not matter which Arab citizen pays. They do not debate the wisdom in declaring war in Iraq and what it may mean - they would rather enlist and fight whoever they have to.

Bush knows these people, he appealed to them and they responded the way he knew they would.

If you honestly believed that, after the events of 9/11, we have increased the threat by FINALLY responding to acts of war perpetrated against Americans all over the world since 1979, then maybe that's a good thing.

When we effectively ignored the threats and buried our heads in the sand and turned a deaf ear to the Islamic terrorists threats - we were struck again and again.

Could well be that the self absorbed liberals in the big cities are lacking the basic common sense that is so prevalent in the more rural areas of our country to understand this.

Because the people in the cities realize that their chance of being killed by a terrorist is so much less than their chance of being killed by their next door neighbor or in a car accident, whilst the people in the middle of nowhere do not realize this. When will the people wake up and realize the all the bush administration does is use scare tactics?

Because "terrorism" is a marketing tool...used by this current White house and other sycophants...the word has real meaning, But when an American political leader uses it ..its highly suspect.
