I'm feeling one of my birth control's side effect's...depression and I want to discontinue and get IUD?

I love the IUD. I got it put in right after I had my son. It's the best thing ever invented! You have no periods with it and no mood swings, no depression, NOTHING!!!
It's great!! But make sure that you get the MIRENA. Don't get the copper one because it has hormones. The MIRENA is awesome!! Then when you ready to get pregnant, your doctor just takes it right out. It only takes 2 seconds. I swear by that thing. Just to let you know that it's really pricey if you don't have Insurance. It's $700.00 but it can stay in your Uterus for up to like 10 years. But if you havent had kids before most likely your doctor won't do it. It's one of those kinds of birth controls that you have had to have kids to get. I don't know why, that's just what my OBGYN told me. So, remember MIRENA.

Depression is a rare side effect for birth control, so before you decide to change your birth control method, I would talk to your doctor to make sure it's not clinical depression, which is an ongoing depression. Since clinical depression isn't caused as a result of medication, it won't improve if you stop taking the medication.

One of the listed side effects of IUD, among others, is depression or mood changes.

Even though the pill's side effects are annoying, several of the side effects possible with IUD's are painful, including longer painful periods, complete or partial expulsion of the device, or infection.

I did some Googling, and just about any birth control method other than condoms/spermicide have many of the same side effects listed.

I would first make sure the depression really is a side effect, and not a problem all its own, then weigh the benefits against the risks of both birth control methods.
