Wrestlers protect themselves from harm by wearing special fire-retardant padding under their costumes. Inferno matches are very rare today because of health concerns and because of state sports commissions expressing concern over safety. Undertaker once said in an interview that it was impossible to breathe properly in the ring when the flames were on as they burned most of the oxygen up. WWE.com calls the Inferno match "possibly the sickest of all WWE matches".

i know inferno matches. they barley go on. the only one i remember is kane vs undertaker. very rare and dangrous. sicker than hardcore match

Undertaker beat Kane in the first ever inferno match in the 90s.

Yeah I knew about the padding because in an inferno match in 2000 and something it was HHH vs Kane and you could see the padding and as far as the oxygen problem the taker was talking about i see where he says that.

u just cant breathe u dont even have to get beat up like kane he had long sleeves on and fire retardent so ill do it. but today all they wear is like a shirt so that will never happen.

Of course,they need protection.I agree that it's the sickest match of them all,I mean setting up your opponent on fire to win the match,that's just sick.

If Kane's arm catches on fire at Armageddon, there will be no protection. I don't think he would just start wearing his old costume. MVP might be the one that cathes fire so he might win for the first time. Fire can burn nearly everything.
