y = -x + 6 is in slope intercept form, y = mx + b, where m is the slope.
So, you know that the slope of this line is -1. A perpendicular line has the opposite converse slope, so since this slope is -1/1, the slope of the new line will be positive 1/1, or 1.

Now that you have the slope of the new line, you can use that and the point-slope form of a line to find the equation. The general form of a point slope line is y - Y = m(x-X), where m is the slop, Y is the y coordinate of a point on the line, and X is the x coordinate of the same point.
So plug in the point and slope to this form and you have:

y - (-4) = 1(x - (-2))
or
y + 4 = x + 2

You can leave the equation in this form, or you can rearrange it so that it is in slope intercept form again.

y = x - 2

I hope this helped!

y= -x+6 (-2,-4)
When a line is perpendicular to another, the product of their slopes is -1.
Step 1: (-1)m= -1 [known slope times unknown slope is -1]
m = 1
Step 2: Now you know the equation is going to be y = 1x + b, or y= x +b. Plug in the point to find b.
(-4) = (-2) + b
b = -2
Step 3: Plug in b.
y = x + (-2) which is the same as y = x -2

The answer would be y = x -2

Look at the slope of your line y = -x+ 6. It is -1.
A line perpendicular to this line must have slope
equal to the negative reciprocal of this or 1
So your line has equation y = x + b.
Now plug in your point to get b: -4 = -2 + b,
so b = -2
Answer y = x - 2.
Hope that helps!

let's say line (a) is perpendicular to line (b)

(a) is y=ax+b, (b) is y=cx+d
there is a rule that a*c has to be -1
so, in this case, y=-x+6
-1*?=-1 ?=1
the line has to be y=x+b
since it passes (-2, -4)
-4=-2+b b=-2
the line's equation is y=x-2
