Swimming, alone, is a very strenuous workout. You need to give your arms more time to recouperate.

When do your muscles recover and grow? In the 48/72 hours of rest after heavy training on specific muscles? Or during your swim/next workout.

Mild overtrain has its uses, but counterbalanced by sufficient rest and proper diet. Lay off for 3 to 4 days starting the day they ache first (after a workout). Walk instead. Tell me on the following workout how much better that felt.

Been there.

If you are lifting and swimming your arms are never recovering. The key to getting stronger and faster is recovery. Take a little time off and then gradually work up to your full 3 days lifting and 3 days swimming

May be and only maybe , you should worry about your blood sugar levels being too high! It will cause muscle fatigue.
How about your potassium intake? is it high enough?
Or just eat some pineapple before you swim. It will mask the pain

depends on what stroke you are doing. You need to lift light weights to counterbalance the motion. You are using youir arms in one direction only.
