I had a horrible experience in terms of unlocking dungeons and doing sidequests in FFX-2, as you had to send Chocobos a certain level to a certain place etc. I'm wondering if FFXII is the same. If not, please describe what its sidequests are like.

it is as far as the licensse board... u did see something similar in x2 but they def improved the license board since x2... now teh game is just plain awesome.... there are so many things u can do in this game..also u can set hte game so it plays like an action rpg almost...and not have to sit around taking turns... its in real time and u cna speed upo the battle engine speed to make it really challenging... try doing a mob hunt wiht battle speed at fastest setting lol.... if ur not ready they can wipe you out pretty fast ...BUT you can also set the option to slow speed so you have more time to strategize your game.... good for new comers to real time battles... man there's so much i can say about this game.... u can look thru the questions i've answered about this game and see what i mean...too many things to list again... but i've answered alot of questions about ff12 so feel free to check them out.... XII!!!! Don't waste time or money on X-2, seriously, one of the worst games I ever played. FFXII was sooooo much better. I loved the battle system and the overdrives, though the story is very linear to Star Wars. Unfortunately I never played Star Ocean. I'm more a FF girl. And just because, here's an in depth reason of why X-2 sucked.: Nothing particularly new about it. You go to the same places you've been in X over and over and over. You don't get to change your characters, instead you change our clothes. The concept of the dresspheres is awesome and the costumes designs are incredible, but all together, the gameplay and battle system are redundant. I loved X and looked so forward to playing X-2 to see what happens, but the storyline was blah at best. And the most irritating thing about it, was the percent complete-ness. Miss one thing, one LITTLE thing (going to a certain place during a certain part of the story for example to do nothing more than stand and remember things) and you get the bad ending. In order to get the good ending, or better yet the secret ending, you need to either spend another $15 on the guide, or spend about an hour on gamefaqs writing down the completion guide. XII on the other hand was one of those games that reinvents the entire series. The battle system was a wonderful change from the normal random battle sequence you're used to in earlier titles and while the story line sounds familiar, the characters bring out a different point of view. The only thing it lacks are the summonings. You still get to summon powerful things, but instead of unleashing powerful attacks and then backing out, you fight along side them, and they're not the usual aeons you may be used to. The license board may be a bit irritating to master, but in retrospect, having your characters use whatever weapons you want them to is worth it. You can have all your characters learn to use everything and equip them all according to the battle conditions.

There are a few sidequests, such as hunting for "marks", but nothing as annoying as FFX-2. I really enjoy FFXII, I am very close to the end, so I started hunting for the marks to get some gil, EXP, and license points. I think the hunts are pretty cool.

I agree with HATING that stupid chocobo minigame, and I hated the one where you spied on people with the spheres. . .argh! FFXII is SO much better!

Most definitely NOT.

Believe it or not, the sidequests are just like the ones in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. You get a mission to fight a certain monster in the pub, find the person who posted it, then you go out into the world, find it, kill it, and return to the poster to let them know that you did it to claim your reward.

There are quite a few others, but none are as absurd as the ones in X-2.
