well, i feel its a situation we all come across quite often in our lives....but, in all such places what is most important is that, you should have a concrete reason for saying a "no"....cause the person means lot to you in such circumstances...you can't take a chance on vague reasons....so be very sure why you wanna say "no".
next, be courteous in your approach....but be firm as well....don't be rude.
last but not the least...always remember the famous saying...."all pains and sorrows in our lives begin from the instinct to please all".....so don't try to please all at the cost of your own happiness and peace of mind...but always respect others sentiments and values too.

i know it is hard but you just have to sit them down tell them that there is a stop point and this is it. besize that follow your heart.
