This is a somewhat difficult situation, but to make it simple, during a reformat, my computer lost all drivers, i've fixed everything but the ethernet card. It keeps saying a network cable is unplugged, and this isn't possible.......if someone could tell me how to check for a bad ethernet card or how to tell what drivers i need exactly, i'd appreciate it.....

Mike gave a good technical answer. But to answer directly, it won't work.
They are not expensive. Go to Circuit city buy a new one and install it and the driver.

Go to control panel and click systems. Unistall all network adapters and reboot. If the card is ok, win will detect it & try to search for the correct driver. Then you will need to provide driver if win cannot find a correct one. If the card is bad, win can never detect it. Also try to use another workable cable to see if this is a cable problem.

You need to install the driver for the particular ethernet card you have. When you reformat and reinstall windows you lose all drivers. Make sure you have all drivers saved to a CD or disk before you do your reformatting.

If you can find the manufacturer and model number on the card itself - you can go to the companies web site and download the driver for it.

Chances are you didn't load the correct driver for the card... to see if the card is working, got to the control panel, click on system and then Device manager, if the network card is showing a yellow or red mark by it, then the card is not setup correctly...
I would then recommend going to the web site of the manufacture and downloading the correct drivers... and reinstall them.

Check which cord you have plugged in... It looks very similar to the one that goes into the wall but it is very different.

Take it all apart again un hook it and check and see if you have the right cord attached to the right thing. One is a little more flat and the other is usually completely round! They are different.

Try interchanging them! even after hooking them, do it again!

OK, find out what's your motherboard type.
Eg for intel, visit
http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/motherboard/index.htm?iid=mbd_main+dt

Go for software and support and find the Ethernet card driver for it.

Or if your PC is Dell / HP / ohers, visit their site, Seek for driver support and driver download or driver software support to find the proper driver for your PC.
Eg. For Compaq :

(search your PC)

Eg. For Dell :
