Yes! As long as you can pick up the signal, and as long as you have the right gear you can pick it up.

Most free WiFi networks display ads though so you'll have to cope with that.

Hi Pook,

Yes. Our city is getting free wifi next week, too (Portland, Oregon). I've read where they will hook them up near traffic signals. I'm not sure what the distance is that your wifi card needs to be to these wireless antennas, but they have to be somewhat close to them, or you need to get an extension antenna.

You would need to buy a PCI (Prefered Option) or a USB adapter. Also check with them to see what kind of wireless (a/b/g/draft n), though g is most likely

Yes, but a desktop PC typically does not come with wireless cards. You can buy one to do it though.
