I am thinking of travelling there over the holiday, but I want to know if the shops and museums will be open. I know its not a big holiday there, but here in HK, SOME things close down.

You can travel to Vietnam at Chistmas. It's not a public holiday in Vietnam, so all will be open. But this is a big occasion, special atmosphere can be felt in big cities like Hanoi, Saigon, Hoi An, Hue. You can check http://www.paradissa.com for further information on tips for travelling in Vietnam on special occasions.

Vietnam over Christmas is fine for travelers. Shops, restuarants and museums are all opened (Museums are closed Mondays)

Generally the "big" holiday here is Tet (Lunar New Year) when shops etc close down for around 3-5 days. Tet 2006/7 is on in mid-Feb 07.

Hanoi over the Christmas period can also be quite cold, so pack a warm jumper!
