I just moved to a new school district and baseball conditioning has started. Tryouts wil be held in January. Most of the kids that have lived in that area have already established themselves as good players and i was wondering if coaches will look at new people and what they would look for.

The coaches will be looking for fundementals. Make sure that you do everything the right way and make good throws. If you need to, overexaggerate things like catching flyballs with two hands, and fielding groundballs in front of you.

For pre-season, I always recommend a head start. Start a throwing program NOW so your arm is loose. Hit the batting cages NOW so your swing is closer to mid-season form.

You don't need to worry about being the best - all you need to worry about is making the cut. Once you make the cut you can begin worrying about where you'll hit in the lineup.

A common mistake for a lot of players is they don't play their game because they think they have to be better than everyone. If you aren't a power hitter, you shouldn't be up there trying to power them out - hit the line drives, coaches will notice.

There a ton of other things you can do that can help - especially if you are on the bubble.

* Be on time! First rule. Arrive early, get in your stretching so you are ready to START at the official time that try-outs begin.

* Be prepared. Have your cleats, pants, etc. If you have an old uniform that fits properly, wear it.

* Be organized. Have all your gear clean, organized and at-hand when you need it.

* Be respectful. Everyone with a clipboard is "sir" or "ma'am". At the end of the tryouts, whether you make it or not, thank the coaches for the opportunity.

* Be a teammate. While the other players are competitors, they are also potential teammates. If the guy before you in BP gets in some good rips, congratulate him! Coaches notice these things, believe me.

* Be enthusastic. NEVER walk when you can run.

* OPTIONAL = MANDATORY. If there are optional try-outs, show up! Take every opportunity to impress the coaches.

Good Luck!

I play on a team and my coach often asks me to scout. He told me what I should mainly look for is that they have good mechanics and look like they have potential. Be calm and try to make the simple plays. Visit the batting cages some so you'll be ready and just play hard and do what you can. If you can do that stuff, you're fine

Basically coaches are looking for talent and players who work hard and will benefit the team plain and simple. Even if he are not the most talented work hard and the coaches will see it.

Talent, and the willingness to mold that talent to the benefit of the team....Having the former without the latter is as useless as t*ts on a bull...
