I'm living in Florida in a row of condo apartments. There is a little space under my window that has sand and some shrubs are growing about 10 feet apart from each other. I am thinking of getting some bricks and boxing off a raised bed and dropping a bag of soil into it and then putting in seed for an herb garden. The exposure of the window is North. So there is never direct sunlight on this spot. Not even in the summer.

Both of these plants like sunlight, though basil is a pretty tough plant and will probably make it. Go for it. Fresh basil in baking is beyond wonderful, I am almost drooling as I type.

I would suggest keeping them in pots. This will allow them to be moved around and regulate the amount of water they get better.

I bought a basil plant in a bag from the food store about three months ago. I planted it in a clay pot and placed it by the kitchen window with no direct sunlight what so ever. Its doing great. Make sure you water it at least once a week.

Yes, but your basil will require almost daily watering. I don't know about cilantro, but I would assume the same. We had a gorgeous basil plant and you know we go out with friends pretty often and sure enough if you don't water it like ever day it dies. I will say if you miss once it will come back. Good luck!

The cilantro might like it, the basil probably won't.
Cilantro likes cooler places, or it will go to seed too fast. Basil likes direct sun, just as tomatoes do.

Up to the amount of sun I was thinking "go for it." However, without direct sun your plants will be leggy at best and perhaps not even grow now that the sun is so far south. If you want to give it a shot, try for a spring/summer crop.

Without direct sunlight I think the basil and cilantro may not grow but you can try it.

Your plants will need light for it to grow. They might be smaller if it doesnt get enough light
