A recent article published showed that cracking any joint, as a rule, does not cause damage or pain, even after long periods of time. However, there is always exceptions to rules. There was a correlation to younger people ( I don't remember exactly, but I believe it was around the age of 8) who repetitively crack their knuckles and the eventual development of arthritis. People who started after this age tended not to have problems.
Manipulating any joint too often, meaning more than about 5 times in a day every day for long periods of time, even when done by professionals, will tend to weaken the ligaments of that joint and can increase the chance of dislocation. You can fix that with prolotherapy, but i've been told it hurts like hell, and won't completely fix the ligaments.

I think it is not bad, but you are popping the air bubbles that form around your knuckles. However, if you are a guy it really doesn't matter after the age of 10, your hands if you are a woman or a female child will get bigger/fatter. A mens hands wont grow fatter unless you are 10 or under.

There's a misconception that you'll get arthiritis, but it's been proven that no, it doesn't ruin your hands. When you crack your knuckles, all your doing is bursting your bursa (air pockets) in your knuckles and no, it doesn't leak. It's a lot like those poppy plastic things that come with stuff, ya know, bubble wrap.

"Painless cracking of joints is as a rule not harmful. However, common sense generally would suggest that the intentional and repetitive cracking of one's joints not only is potentially socially bothersome but also could be physically troublesome when it produces pain."

no not at all. It is actually good for you. But if it hurts, then stop for like a week and then you can keep on doing it. I crack my toes and it feels pretty good. All it is, fluid flowing through, it won't create artherites.

Supposedly you can get arthritis from it, but I'm sure that's just an "old wives tale".
