This is my first pregnancy(41weeks) and ive read all about it but i know that experience is different from reading. just a quick question and answer the best you know please. If I lay down for a while and when i get up if i feel liquid come out whats the possibility its the fluid? when I was 37weeks i though my water had broke and another time at 39weeks and it seems the same but different. i duno can anyone describe what it should feel like or something becasue i would go to a hospital but we're in an ice storm and i dont want to make another false trip. so any advice or experience to share?

Well, it could be your water, you know when you pee and you can stop it in mid-stream by squeezing your muscle down there? If it's your water, you can't stop. When you go to get up, squeeze the muscle as tight as you can, if any thing comes out, good chance its your water.
I hope you understand this and I hope I helped you out some what.

Does the fluid come out when you are not lying down and then stand up? And how often does it happen? I had a slow leak and I would sit down and then when I got up there was a wet spot where I was sitting (my own couch thank goodnes:) But anyway, regardless of a slow leak or a large one, it is still your water breaking and your body preparing for labour. It's always best to be safe than sorry. For me, I called my midwife right away and explained to her and she said it wasn't my water breaking so I didn't go in, but then ended up going the next day when I saw her for my check up because of something present in my urine test. So afterward we realized it probably was my water that broke. Everything was fine, but better to get checked out than risk infection or labour at home. Good luck.

I asked myself that same question when my water broke. I woke up at 3 in the morning to go pee and wooooosh, water came out all the way from the bed to the toilet. It's clear water and it will make a mess. I called TeleCare (24 hour hotline in which a nurse answers all your questions) and she told me I should go to the hospital immediately. In our prenatal class, they told us that when our water breaks, we have to deliver within 24 hours or it can cause some sort of infection. Of course I took my time, took my shower, etc. and was at the hospital by 7am and had my baby at 2am.

That's what you have your doctor's number for. If you really aren't sure, then you should call. They will tell you what they want you to do. If you aren't getting any other signs of labour, you could probably give it a couple hours, to wait and see if contractions start, but if it's still a problem after that, then call for sure. After your first couple scares with thinking your water broke didn't you and your doctor discuss what he wants you to call for or when to go to the hospital?

i really think your water broke if you go to the bathroom or stand up or just any type of walking and water is running down your leg that really might be a sign that your water broke. call your doctor and let him/her know its better safe than sorry. wouldn't want you to have the baby in the house in the middle of an ice storm. congrats and good luck

it sound like it could be your labor when i was pregnant with my first that was what happened to me i was expecting to have a big gush of fluid , but that wasn't the case , i didn't go in until almost 48 hours after that happened when labor really started to set in and what they had to do is give me and the baby antibiotic because of the risk from having my water broken for so long. so i would go in because it sounds like it is definitely time and that is most likely what it is good luck . and congratulations.

i was 41 weeks and one day when my water was broken by my doctor. it was like no amount of pee i had ever felt. it was gushing out of me. i think you would know if it actually happened. if youre really not sure go anyways. better to be safe than sorry and you never know they might just keep you to let you have the baby anyway being as your overdue by a week.
