quite often they work together as a team.

However they may use a variety of different therapies.

Naturally a psychiatrist has more training ( they need to do an MD first) and have the authority to prescribe medications.

First society is confused by the roles of these two professions. Psychologist study the behaviors of individuals and the societal roles that make these individual behave as they do. The psychologist often deal with the here and now of the clients environment.

Psychiatrist study the mind of the individual and what societal roles make these individual behave as they do. Psychiatrist often deal with the clients childhood to see if there are supressed issues.
