There aren't any real close to UCR, but I like Babylon (they have belly dancers some nights) and Mr. Kebab (middle eastern, not Greek, but close to the same dishes and they have an all you can eat buffet on Friday and Saturday nights). I may go there tonight now that you make me think of it.

If you have a job offer in Riverside, take it. There are lots of decent neighborhoods and on weekends you can go into LA for fun. Its about an hour away. Other than real estate being more expensive than Las Vegas, there is little difference in the cost of living. Food may even be a little cheaper as Vegas gets all its food trucked in from Riverside County. Riverside County is too big to say where to live without us knowing where your job is located. You try to live within 5 miles of where your job is located. Ask the people the As for the look of the place remember that Riverside County is the western end of the desert that Vegas is located in. A little greener but not a lot.

The only places I have tried out here are "Babylon" and "Daphne's"
I have had some really amazing food at Babylon, but there was also a time when I went and the food was just so-so. Daphne's is a chain restaurant. Kind of like a fast food place. The food there is good but not amazing. I like their gyros and their baklava. I would say take a gamble with Babylon though because when it is good it is really good, and more authentic than Daphne's. If you eat there you must try their grilled calamari appetizer and their Baklava Cheesecake. Babylon is located near 14th and vine (near the metrolink). Daphne's is in the new plaza center on central. I have seen a few greek places on university, but I have never tried them. One is called the Sumer cafe. It is a hookah bar too though, so beware of smoke. There is the Mediterranean Palace in University village, but my friend and I went in there once to check it out and there was a weird vibe and strange people, so we left. Hope this helped.
The Lucky/Mad/Friendly Greek "Restaurants" are really just fast food drive-thrus. The only Greek thing on any of their menus is a Gyro. Everything else is like Hamburgers/ Chili fries, etc. Their Gyros are pretty good, but if you are looking for more variety, try the places I've mentioned above.

I was raised in Toronto, and dine regularly in Greek Town, where the resturants were plentiful and truly authentic. Then I moved to Riverside for a couple of years and searched high and low for a real authentic Greek restaurant and found none. Places like Mad Greek aren't truly Greek at all, they serve Gyros, burgers etc. You could try Daphne's (there's one in Corona off the 15N, exit Hidden Valley). It's a fast foodish joint, you order at the counter and food's brought out to you. The food is surprisngly good, very tasty and as authentic as Greek can get out here. Thy have stuffed grape leaves, chicken and beef kabobs, lamb, garlicky yogurt for dipping, warmed pita bread and good Greek salad. HTH!
