A Christmas Wish

Dear Santa,
I have been Very good this year
And there are a few things That I want you to hear
First I want Mom To get promoted at her work
Then I want dad To come home to New York
You see Santa My dad is a solider And he was sent away
Even though he has a bad shoulder He still couldn’t stay
My brother also went with my Dad And His Name is Zach
They left together But haven’t come back
I know this sounds like I’m really sad
But the truth is I’m really glad
My dad says it’s an Honor
To serve the USA Even if it Means
He has to go Away But all I want this year Is my family back together
To bring Christmas Cheer That'll last forever
And I know you’ll come through Santa
Because you are a Magical man But something in me doubts
That you even can So all I can do now
Is to hope and to Pray That my dad and brother
Will come home For Christmas day!

This poem i wrote just before my dad and brother were sent to Afganistan. i was given national recongition for the poem and the fundraiser we did. They were discharged on the count that they had higher family needs than the needs to be with the country. Every Christmas we have a special prayer for protection of the Troops still there and those who have moved on.

Kid Stuff

The wise guys
tell me
that Christmas
is Kid Stuff...
Maybe they've got
something there --

Two thousand years ago
three wise guys
chased a star
across a continent
to bring
frankincense and myrrh
to a Kid
born in a manger
with an idea in his head...

And as the bombs
crash
all over the world
today
the real wise guys
know
that we've all
got to go chasing stars
again
in the hope
that we can get back
some of that
Kid Stuff
born two thousand years ago --

here's one.

Jolly and merry,
he's big fat and hairy.
he gives you your wish,
if there are cookies on the dish.
now get you some sleep
and make not a peep
for good girls and boys
get the best kinds of toys.
