I currently owe a local business some money, now my question is, a Director of mine (from work) uses this same company, The company called this director at home and asked him if he knew me, when the director said yes they told him to tell me that I needed to contact the store to settle my bill.....is this legal, isn't this breaking some privacy law? It is nobody's business but mine who I owe money to? Do I have a case?

Ok and just so that you know, I have contacted them and I have set up payment arrangements.....and by the way instead of trying to make people feel bad try to be helpful, like none of you have ever had money problems or gotten behind on a bill

It depends on your state law, but the creditor definitely violated your rights under most state debt collection law. Massachusetts provides for a $25 minimum liquidated damages. You only have to prove the violation.

Only if this really happened; bear with me on this.. Did your boss say something to you about it? Or inform you of the conversation he had with the company? Will your boss support the incident with written statements? Are you being harassed as a result?

Get a real lawyer.

If you havent answered them then I think they have the right to attempt to locate you. How on earth will they ever find you if they dont?

Personally I would be rather embarassed and concerned that I owe money rather than crying about my perceived rights to privacy. Better that than a court notice...right?

Only if you have been damaged some way other than being embarassed with the truth. If what was said is not true then you have a slander case.
