My daughter had toe surgery to have an extra bone removed over three weeks ago. Is it safe for her to take a bath now? I have tried to reach the doctor regarding this, to no avail so anyone with podiatric experience would be a big help! Thanks...

I've not only had surgeries but I'm the son of a foot surgeon. Three weeks is plenty of time. More than enough. Bathe away. =)

If her stitches, provided she got some after the surgery, have been removed and the wound has fully healed, then she can take a bath already. Is it really that hard to get in touch with your doctor to ask this?

It really depends on the healing process. For bathing, she can always put a plastic bag over her foot in the shower to keep water and moisture out. She can always use a shower chair, which can be a patio or backyard chair to prevent water problems.

You definitely need to consult the doctor. I had two operations on my foot, and one doctor had me keep it dry for weeks, the other had me soak the whole thing (bandages and all). (The latter had better results) It depends on the nature of the treatment plan your doctor designed for you.

If she still has stitches or staples, do not put foot in water. You can always bathe her with that foot out of the water.

i would have her hold her foot over the tub just in case.. if u do decide to wash it, wash it with anitbacterial soap.. and re bandage it just in case... good luck..
