Well my boss' wife gave birth to their second child, and there was a card passed around for each staff member to write some congratulating message on it.

Everyone basically wrote the same thing which was "Congrats!", and I didn't want to write the same thing, so I wrote,

"Congrats. Don't drop the baby."

At that moment, I thought it was kind of a witty comment but now that I think about it was cheesy, lame and not even funny.

Sooo, I'm just wondering if you guys think it's stupid as well?

I know knowing what everyone else thinks won't change the fact that I already wrote it but nothing wrong with a little curiousity is there? ;O)

alrighty, thanks!

You meant it as a joke--hopefully your boss knows you well enough to take it that way. And it IS good advice!

I think it's cute and funny! I am the same way, I hate writing the same exact thing. Maybe if you had accentuated the quote with a smiley face... but all in all, it's funny and cute. Don't worry about it. If the mom gets upset, it's only because her hormones are raging and not at all b/c of what you wrote! LOL, it IS kinda funny!!! :p

it depends on the relationship you have with your boss. if you know each other well than i wouldn't worry about it. you were trying to be original. it would only be extremely bad if she actually dropped the baby at some point with which my luck would happen just because i wrote that! ; )

yeah, very poor taste, unless you have a close relationship and they both understand your humor. I understand your goal was to be unique, but that statement didn't do it. If you would have added first "I don't want to write the same as everyone else" or some other statement that explained your intent to be different and not disrespectful

I thought it was funny

but humor differs from person to person. So your boss and wife may a different reaction but they might also get a chuckle out it.

Hmmm.. Yes, it's cheezy and lame but it depends on the boss your giving it to. It's not rude... so you have nothing to worry about! If it were something that could be taken offensively, then I'd start to panic...

I find it very funny. I think you did good I like it and I think they will understand that you were joking if they have any sense of humor,

when u wrote "don't drop the baby", i presume you were concerned and as an after thought, you felt it was lame.whatever the case, you cannot reverse the act and you should stand up for what you meant. thats what counts. cheer up
