anyone know how to make a purse out of them? I'm believing from all the purses online etc that they are sewn together but I can't actually tell I can make the chains... its just.. ahh! does anyone know?

The problem is getting the gum wrappers together. Are they glued? Sewn? Once they are in a "chain" they would be like a string of yarn, and you could either knit or crochet.
If they are glued together, hopefully it is with super glue!

Does the gum wrapper chain actually look like this....VVVVVV ? I made one about 30 ft. long when I was younger...but putting them together into a purse? Perhaps a round shaped one where you start out actually making a spiral of the rope itself.
